The Comparative Nature

13 July, 2008 by zane80

Why does people like to compare with each other? When did it all started? Perhaps during the start of civilisation. Comparing is healthy to an extent, but when the comparing of wealth, power and status starts, it becomes unbeneficial for anyone.

We are as you all know, in an age of capitalism and consumerism, and if I say we do not want to accumulate as much riches as possible, I would be a big deceiver for all ages.

But if we keep our comparative nature as strong as possible, we can never be happy. Will we be as rich as Bill Gates or Warren Buffet? If we can’t be, let’s not dwell too much already.

Rather than trying to compare this and that, let’s make sure we should reach our goals. Our main goal should be to earn a keep, start a family with offspring, give your life its true meaning and lifelong happiness, see to your children’s upbringing is good and beneficial for mankind.

Civility

23 June, 2008 by zane80

Imagine, service workers making our lives better but more often at a time or not, we took that for granted.

Take for example, the cleaners at our toilets, do we prefer to do our business at a clean or undesirable toilet?

Everyone know for sure, but we often aim all over which men knows better. It is not a difficult feat to do it properly, so let’s make sure we are civilised enough to be called humans.

A good way to save the world.

15 June, 2008 by zane80

If no more factories producing unnecessary items for pleasure were to stop just for a year, everyone to take up their hoes and rakes and start cultivating all the land around them, the world would be greener, cleaner, fresher air will surround us and the earth will last at least 10 more years for every 1 year of cultivating and love. But is it possible to do that? Yes I truly believe so. But let’s look at the obstacles first.

A world filled with materialistic people who only want to consume and desire unnecessary toys and pretty stuffs are one of the strongest demand for our natural resources wasted daily. Which means that this notion of mine is pretty much better left unspoken. However, there is a Chinese saying, which says, “he will only shed tears only when he sees his own coffin.” This metaphor simply means unless there are clear signs that the earth is going to end, people will not do anything at all.

So unless you take the first step to do what is needed to be done, the rest of the world will follow suit, so why not start with you and make this world a pleasant place and avoid any more news of needless hungry on the other side of the world.

By the way, I came across an interesting article, just read it at http://www.verticalfarm.com/ , it is a good alternative on saving ourselves.

The depth of humans

8 June, 2008 by zane80

For too long, we have looked outward for information, meaning in life, excitement, happiness, but we have forgotten to look inward. The immeasurable depth inside us is actually the same with the immeasurable width of the world. True enough, the outside world is endless, everything to explore and nothing worth not seeing. But the same holds true for the inside of ourselves. In order to see into the depth of ourselves, we have to individualise in stages.

Firstly, we need to understand why do we exist, and be ourselves at whatever age we are at. Be it young and living vitality and vibrantly but also old and wise and taking less risks.

Short, but lastly, we should not see death as an end, but a goal. Not wanting to live is the same as not wanting to die. A young man who does not fight and conquer has missed the best part of his youth, and an old man who does not know hoe to listen to the secrets of the brooks, as they tumble down from the peaks to the valleys, make no sense. He is a spiritual mummy who is nothing but a rigid relic of the past. He stands apart from life, mechanically repeating himself to the last triviality.

Balance of Life

28 May, 2008 by zane80

Life consist of Family, Friends, Work and Self.

In order to be a balanced person (happiest person), a strike between all the above-mentioned 4 factors must be taken into consideration.

Family is where u belong, also the nucleus of the society. Without a family, you are nothing, if you cannot have one because of various reason, make one, adopt, join a good lawful one. Give your parents a massage, your children hugs, your siblings food. Your spouse love.
Friends are what you cannot do without in the outside world as it is harsh, cruel to us and unforgiving sometimes. So make sure you care about your friends. But be firm and learn to say no when needed to. As the Lao Tsu saying goes, the misbehaved ones are our unmentioned mentors in life, the behaved ones shows a good example to the misbehaved ones.

Work is something everyone has to do, unless he/she cannot work at all. Since it takes up almost half of our lives, make sure you get the one destined for you. As there is definitely a job for everyone, just that most are still mismatched. A simple checklist to determine whether is the job you are having a good one for you, ask yourself are you eager to go to work everyday? Are you always smiling while working?

In order to make all these happen, you are the most important factor. Life is definitely worth living and exciting unless you are in Third World countries or. If you don’t know what life have in store for you tomorrow, don’t you think that itself is exciting? And of course, be mindful of all your actions and constantly think of how you could improve your thinking and how to be smiling in all sorts of situations imaginable. :D

Less meat is better?

28 May, 2008 by zane80

Somehow, the word of eating less meat will greatly contribute to the decrease of global warming which is so true have been spreading around. But the pursuing of a bourgeois lifestyle is still deeply etched in the mind of most people in the world, so what can really be done to correct this unhealthy mindset of self first, earth last?

Let’s return to the food chain, although we are at the top of the food chain or just below vampires, we are the only species having the choices of remaining an omnivore or a herbivore. Isn’t this fact fascinating? But it requires strict discipline to become a vegetarian as no vegetable taste better than meat. Which hedonist doesn’t love meat?

At least cut down on the amount of meat one can have. Too much meat cause obesity and unless you are a bodybuilder, one shouldn’t need that much meat. Domestic growing of livestocks will cause a reduction of our flora, their german gas, or fart is also an amazing contributing factor to global warming, fart can be really dangerous.

If reincarnation really does exist, I do not want to take the chance of eating too much meat or poultry in case I became someone’s next meal. It would be better to take the winning side of the good and be healthy at the same time too.

After all, we are talking about lives here, neither anyone of you deserve to be food for someone or vice versa. So just start by reducing the intake of meat, very soon, it will become a habit. :D

One of the roads to undertake to become wealthy is to spend smartly

25 May, 2008 by zane80

Ways to save money

Supermart vs small Minimart
For supermart, as we all know, there are the manager, supervisor, shareholders and many service staff. Most of their pay would come from the extra costs added to the items sold. whereas in a minimart, the owner, usually also the supervisor and cashier all in one will handle everything thus greatly reducing the prices of the goods. Although the variety of products range much greatly in a supermart, do try as much as possible purchase from the minimart, unless there is something u needed not found in a minimart, then by all means, march forth to your nearest ever-profit-hungry supermarket.

Foodcourt vs Fastfood vs Hawker Centre

The answer is clear Hawker centre equates to better priced food and more mouth watering varieties.

Shopping

Who doesn’t like to shop in our current world of consumerism?

Window Shopping vs street shopping vs online shopping

The same theory applies to the supermart analogy.

Definitely window shopping saves u the most money, but when buying is necessary, let’s see which is the most smartest.
In a normal manufacturer to shop process, the cost of a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 3 headphones cost around $600+ SGD in any retailers in Singapore. However, an ebay seller would usually sell it at the price nearest to the manufacturer/company which is about $350+ USD + $30 shipping cost from the US which totals to around just $400+ SGD. Then there are certified merchants at Amazon which are on top of their low prices, they are extremely trustworthy as well. Singpost@USA is currently tied in with certified companies in US like Amazon to provide shipping to us locals. This is a way Singpost can increase its profits while saving a bit of money for us as well. Online shopping just require a debit card but caveat emptor, the buyer shall be responsible for any risks they undertake. But as for me, I am fully aware of the risks for the sake of saving money. Again but, but try not to be hooked to online shopping and overspend.

A last but, if we were all to buy online, sooner, many local shops may close down and that would be deemed unpatriotic. Who cares anyway. Its everyone for himself or herself. So happy shopping.

The significance of 3

21 May, 2008 by zane80

The trinity, the 3 largest factions in the world, the romance of the 3 kingdoms, the 3 stooges, the 3 top insurance companies in Singapore, the 3 major local banks in Singapore, the 3 telecom companies, the 3 major religions and the 3 future superpowers set to dominate the world. what else starts with 3? 3 little pigs? Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo? Why is 3 just so common yet so powerful in this world?

So what does this have to do with the future? Perhaps we can deduce the future simple on the number 3. From history and even early literature it was also discovered that the main players of WWII are USA, Japan and Germany, The 3 ruling gods of Olympus, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. Perhaps the same can applies to our daily life. A person can only be complete with his 3 group of families. Spouse, parents and children. 3 material possessions, 3 stages of life, Childhood, adulthood and old age.

Perhaps from all these, we should try to implement 3 into our lives in areas where we are unable to make any important decisions. If we were to really introduce the power of 3 into our lives, I believe that our lives were to be smooth sailing (ending part)

Not forgetting PS3, Xbox360 and Wii, but Wii seemed to be one breaking out of the trinity cycle…

3 played an important factor in maintaining peace and power. A simple logic would be if there are 3 superpowers in the world and any 1 were to attack the other, the 3rd superpower would take advantage of the situation. Therefore, 3 is an important factor to keep power in check. The same goes for the modernized world, there are always 3 organisations set to keep things competitively and power in check.
